Working in our Brisbane Office, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mining Engineer, focusing specifically on strategic planning for BMA’s existing operations and planned expansions in the Bowen Basin.

The successful applicant will operate within the Resource Development Group (RDG). Committed to adding value to BMA’s operations by providing specialist expertise, the RDG incorporates Resource Planning, Geological Services, Underground Strategy, Mining Technology and Research teams. As a part of Resource Planning, you will have access to this entire team of skilled mining professionals to assist in developing your knowledge of other areas of the BMA business. Additionally, the Resource Development Group provides functional leadership for strategic planning in BMA. Reporting to the Principal Mining Engineer - Resource Planning, you will assist in developing, maintaining and continuously improving our planning procedures and systems.

This position operates across the spectrum of mine planning; developing strategies and plans to maximise the potential value of BMA’s business, and provide guidance to site inside of the shorter term planning window. Your role will include mine design, scheduling, operating cost estimation, capital modelling and full NPV assessment to support Board Level submissions for BMA growth projects. You will be further involved in Life of Asset planning for our operating mine sites, encompassing mine optimisation, life of mine scheduling, landform planning, and financial evaluation of mine planning options.

With occasional domestic travel required, your sound interpersonal skills will see you develop and maintain relationships with Site Technical Services Managers, BMA’s Project Development Group (PDG), and Finance and other Mining Professionals within the Resource Development Group. With a high level of analytical ability, you will have a demonstrable aptitude for problem solving and effective decision making. With significant technical, operational and commercial experience in open cut and / or underground coal mining, a basic understanding of coal quality and processing is required. Proficient in the use of Vulcan, XPAC and Xeras or software literate in similar applications, you will have proven experience in capital justifications and project management. A Bachelor’s Degree in a mining related discipline is mandatory, whilst postgraduate qualifications in management or finance related fields, is highly desirable.
