Situated near Muswellbrook in the picturesque Upper Hunter Valley, the Mt Arthur Coal mine is an open cut thermal coal operation that mines 15 million tonnes annually.

An outstanding career opportunity exists within Mining Operations at Mt Arthur Coal for an experienced Mining Engineer looking for field experience. We envisage your career progression to either senior roles within Engineering and Technical Services or Production department.

Reporting to the Mining Superintendent, the successful applicant will strengthen our Open Cut Examiner capability, actively contributing to Mt Arthur Coal’s safety goal of Zero Harm to our employees, environment and community.

You will have a lead role in providing customer focused engineering services to achieve production targets through the analysis of mining efficiency, effectiveness and future planning.

You will plan and coordinate work on shift to ensure targets are met safely and cost effectively. You will also undertake statutory inspections in accordance with coal mining legislation and ensure compliance with the Mine’s HSEC management system.

You will coach and develop employees; foster strong, positive working relationships between team members and other departments; maintain mining standards in all areas, including road design, work areas and dumps; identify improvement initiatives; and support and monitor their implementation. You will also be involved in short term planning and scheduling.

Computer literate, you will have a strong commitment to safety, demonstrated supervisory leadership capability and significant experience working in a complex open cut mining environment. A Mining Engineering Degree and either hold or be working towards the Open Cut Examiners qualification are essential. Experience with a Truck and Shovel operation, mine planning or Drill and Blast are highly desirable.
