Our client is an established New Zealand based mining operator who currently has the requirement for a Geotechnical Engineer for a key role at this outstanding coal mine operation.

This challenging role will be based around both open cut and underground duties and will require a candidate with an exceptional eye for detail and a dedicated skill-set including a background in a similar role with a coal mining operator.

The main responsibilities of this role will include

* Optimisation of the recovery of coal reserves
* Development of risk assessments
* Supervision of surface and underground geotechnical programs
* Assessment and maintenance of geotechnical databases
* Geotechnical project work
* Liaison with the mine planning dept

You will be a self starter with the following:

* BSc in Engineering, Geology or Civil Geotechnical Engineering
* Previous experience in a similar role
* Strong communication skills
* The ability to work independently and also as part of a structured team
